About the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore

The road to Blomidon in the Annapolis Valley, (c) NovaScotiaPhotoAlbum.comThe Annapolis Valley is famous for its farmlands and orchards and great beauty. It is formed by the North Mountain, a low range of ancient volcanoes which overlooks the Bay of Fundy, and the escarpment of the Southern Uplands, usually referred to as the South Mountain.

Many local farm markets are a source of fresh produce and often feature arts and crafts as well. Highway 1 through the valley becomes the Main Street of every town it passes through and is called the longest Main Street in the world. Museums, arts and crafts, fine dining, theatre and myriad places of interest are to be found here.

Bridgewater is the commercial center of this area. Lunenburg has been designated a World Heritage Site, with its old world German atmosphere and active waterfront featuring many shops and eateries, just across the harbour from the golf course. Mahone Bay has many delightful cafés and restaurants and unique shops, and is a great tourist destination.

The South Shore has many white sand beaches and is renowned for swimming, sea kayaking and boating opportunities.
